"If coffee was born in Ethiopia, it grew up in India"

An exceptional Indian coffee bursting with complexity, offering warming and rich baked fruit notes and a rich, full-bodied molasses-like sweetness. These rich and deep flavours are characteristic of the Carbonic Maceration Process.

Origin: Bababudangiri, Western Ghats, India
Producer: Ratnagiri Estate, owned by Ashok Patre
Varietal: Catuai
Altitude: 1,800–2,000m
Process: 96-hour Carbonic Maceration Natural

The Story:
Nestled in the Western Ghats, Ratnagiri Estate—literally translating to "Pearl Mountain"—has been cultivating coffee since 1920. Owned by the visionary Ashok Patre, this farm balances tradition with cutting-edge processing methods. For this lot, cherries with a Brix (sugar content) of 25% were carefully selected, fermented in stainless-steel tanks for 96 hours under a blanket of carbon dioxide, and then dried slowly over 27 days on raised beds, creating a coffee that is both rich and refined.

Ratnagiri Estate is a biodiverse haven, also certified by the Rainforest Alliance. With practices like organic soil corrections, the use of seawater extracts for plant immunity, and an ecosystem supporting tigers, monkeys, and even elephants, Ashok pairs quality and sustainability as the beating heart of his operation.

For six consecutive seasons, Ratnagiri has consistently delivered coffees that rank as the best from India on the cupping table. This Nanolot invites you to explore the heights of an often overlooked area of Indian Specialty Coffee.
